The CIEM Library
The central Library of Calcutta Institute of Engineering and Management is the nerve centre for all academic activities of the institute and play a pivotal role in supporting the academic needs of students and faculty members. The Library building is located adjacent to the Academic Building spanning approximately 545 square metre (5866.33 square feet). Established in 2003, the Library has evolved into a comprehensive learning resource centre, facilitating access to a vast collection of print and digital materials.
OBJECTIVES
- To acquire, organize and update the Library collection to support teaching learning process
- To encourage students to read beyond the requirements of the curriculum.
- To work with faculty in integrating information skills, knowledge of information sources and the use of technology in accessing information need to strengthen their instruction, research and extension.
- To provide instruction and assistance in the effective use of learning resources/ services.

The CISM Library: A Gateway to Knowledge and Innovation
The Central Library at Calcutta Institute of Science and Management is a cornerstone of academic excellence, playing a crucial role in the acquisition, organization, and dissemination of knowledge. As a proud partner in the institute’s journey towards its vision, the library has established comprehensive policies, structured systems and an enriching environment to facilitate seamless learning and research. The Library is well equipped with modern facilities and resources in the forms of online databases, books, journals, reports etc. The Library has been using the KOHA – cloud base Library Management software, powered by barcode technology, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience for all members of the CISM community. It is situated in the Central Building, spreading over approximately 1400 sq feet (approx).
Stocked with the latest editions of textbooks, reference materials, and academic publications, the library enables students to broaden their knowledge across various subjects included in their curriculum. To keep pace with the evolving landscape of Science and Management, it also provides access to the latest periodicals, journals and research publications, ensuring that students and faculty stay informed about cutting-edge developments in their fields. It is partially automated and is one of the most modern Science and Management College libraries in West Bengal.
Library Facilities
The Central Library at Calcutta Institute of Engineering and Management (CIEM) & Calcutta Institute of Science and Management (CISM) follow a modern Open Access System, allowing readers direct access to books and journals. This system enables students and faculty to browse and select materials of their choice, fostering independent learning and research.
Advanced Library Services
- Fully Automated Lending System
- Students can borrow up to 10 books for home reading (by subject).
- Faculty members can borrow up to 05 books at a time.
- Reference books are issued for a limited period, depending on demand.
- A special collection of books is available for project work and competitive examinations.

Web OPAC & Online Access: As part of the Centre of Excellence, the library provides modern web-based services, including Web OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). Users can:
- Search and browse library resources and new additions from anywhere.
- Check book availability and borrowing status through their accounts.
- Receive overdue notification alerts via email.

- A well-furnished, comfortable reading space is available for library members.
- 150 Seating arrangement in library Reading room for Students.
